Have you ever dreamed of holding a residency at the most famous nightclub in the world? Ministry of Sound is looking for their next breakthrough resident DJ, and they are doing it in a completely unprecedented way.

In a climate where DJ culture is increasingly shaped by algorithms, short-form visibility, and pre-packaged performance, Ministry of Sound is proposing a different model—one rooted in pressure, presence, and real-time accountability.

Announced across social platforms with minimal framing but immediate impact, “Boxed In” positions itself as a live, audience-influenced DJ competition that collapses the distance between performer and listener. Set to take place inside the club’s main room, The Box, the format rejects the safety of pre-recorded submissions in favor of something far less forgiving: a 12-hour, publicly broadcast endurance test.

A Format Built on Exposure

Scheduled for September 13, 2026, the event will be streamed in full via Twitch, marking a deliberate convergence between club space and digital arena.

The structure is direct. Thirty DJs will be shortlisted, reduced to six finalists who will perform live under sustained scrutiny. From that point forward, the competition unfolds as a sequence of challenges designed to test not only technical ability, but responsiveness—how a DJ reads, adapts, and recalibrates in real time.

What distinguishes “Boxed In” is not simply its duration, but its mechanism of control. Audience interaction is not peripheral; it is embedded. Viewers will influence outcomes as the event progresses, effectively reshaping the traditional hierarchy between performer, promoter, and crowd.

Mentorship as Mediation

Each finalist will be paired with an established figure drawn from across the contemporary electronic spectrum. The inclusion of Sam Divine, Mak10, G33, Fish56Octagon, Jakkob, and Siân Owen suggests a deliberate cross-section of scenes and sensibilities.

Rather than functioning as judges in the conventional sense, these mentors act as intermediaries—guiding decisions, offering perspective, and, crucially, contextualizing performance within a broader cultural framework. It is a structure that acknowledges the fragmentation of today’s electronic landscape while attempting to unify it within a single, high-pressure format.

Stakes and Structure

The reward is substantial but not unprecedented: a formal Ministry of Sound residency, accompanied by international bookings and a £25,000 development package. What is notable is less the monetary value than the institutional backing. A residency at a venue of this scale remains a form of validation that digital metrics alone cannot replicate.

More significantly, “Boxed In” reframes what constitutes merit. In contrast to competitions that privilege polish and post-production, this format prioritizes immediacy—decisions made in the booth, under pressure, with no opportunity for revision.

Reasserting the Booth

There is a broader implication embedded within the project. At a time when DJ culture risks becoming increasingly abstracted—consumed through clips, curated feeds, and fragmented attention—“Boxed In” re-centers the booth as a site of risk.

Endurance, inconsistency, recovery: these are not flaws within this framework, but integral components of performance. The demand is not perfection, but control under instability.

Entry and Access

Applications are open globally, requiring a short-form video introduction and a 15-minute mix submission. The barrier to entry remains low in technical terms, but the expectation is clear: those selected will be required to translate digital presence into physical command.

The deadline for submissions is August 16, 2026.

Context and Consequence

Whether “Boxed In” becomes a blueprint or remains an isolated experiment will depend on its execution. What is certain is that it arrives at a moment of recalibration for electronic music culture—where visibility is abundant, but distinction is increasingly difficult to define.

By shifting emphasis from exposure to performance, Ministry of Sound is, at the very least, asking a necessary question:

What does it mean to prove yourself as a DJ in 2026?

A history of dance music and rave culture mapped out on the circuit diagram of a 303 bass synthesizer.

Dorothy Acid House Love Blueprint celebrates over 900 DJ's, clubs, musicians, free parties, sound systems, record labels, radio stations and fanzines who have been pivotal to the evolution of acid house and its subsequent impact on dance music and rave culture. From its early roots in British Northern Soul and 1970’s New York Disco, through the cultural revolution of the Second Summer of Love, to its explosion into the mainstream and its influence on musicians like Massive Attack, Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers.

The print pays homage to the cities, clubs and individuals that were forerunners of acid house, rave and dance culture including Manchester’s Twisted Wheel (famous for its all-nighters), New York's legendary Loft parties (organised by David Mancuso) and Paradise Garage (home to DJ Larry Levan’s residency), Chicago’s Warehouse (where Frankie Knuckles pioneered Chicago House), Detroit’s Belleville Three (creators of Detroit techno), Phuture (Chicago band credited with creating acid house’s distinctive sound) and London’s Rare Groove scene (championed by Norman Jay and later Gilles Peterson).

The print is organised around key scenes, clubs, and DJs including Ibiza and the Balearic beat (Amnesia and DJ Alfredo, Café del Mar and José Padilla, Es Paradis, Pacha), London’s nascent acid house scene (Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfield, Johnny Walker, Nicky Holloway and formative clubs Shoom, Future, Spectrum, Trip), the North of England’s scene (Manchester’s legendary Haçienda and Greg Wilson, Graeme Park, Mike Pickering, Dave Haslam and Liverpool’s Quadrant Park), Berlin’s techno scene (Tresor, E-Werk, Berghain), the rave scene of the late 80’s early 90’s (London’s Orbital raves and New York’s Storm Raves) and the free party sound systems (Spiral Tribe, DiY).

The print also focuses on key moments (Second Summer of Love, Castlemorton, Criminal Justice Act) and features underground clubs (Chicago’s Music Box and London’s Clink Street), pioneering and occasionally overlooked DJ’s (Nancy Noise, Lisa Loud), super clubs (Cream, Ministry of Sound, Gatecrasher), superstar DJ’s (Tiësto, Pete Tong, Sasha, Carl Cox) bands (New Order, 808 State, S’Express, The KLF), producers (Larry Heard, Derrick May, Andrew Weatherall), fanzines (Boy’s Own), record labels (Trax Records, R&S, Warp) and stores (Manchester’s Eastern Bloc) who all played a part in bringing acid house and dance culture to the masses.

What kind of rave are you going to?

Article by : Ольга Година

Imagine the craziest party in your life, multiply it in 10 times, but even this simple arithmetic will not reflect the madness of what is happening behind these walls.

Let's start with the building, it is so industrial, large, powerful, reflecting the needs of the city and people from all over the world who want to join this incredible experience.

The queue in which you must humbly stand from 30 minutes to 4-5 hours depending on time, day and line-up. No VIP, tables, only a guest list for a few lucky ones who know for sure that they will get into the gates of the techno church and stay there for a few days.
The place is a cult, a place of communication, a place of interest, a place of power and incredible techno and sound that penetrates you from the inside and dissolves it into molecules.
Facecontrol, it is not only the famous Sven Marquardt, but his assistants also. If a line up lasts more than one day, the toughest facecontrol in your life will be under its scope.

In Berghain you can do everything, the ban applies only to photos and videos.

If you want to go completely naked through the club, welcome, you want to wear a harness, latex and fetish attributes, you are in the right place. Want sex? This is not a problem, a lot of toilets and a dark room will make your desires and lust be as comfortable as possible. For Berghain, everything is the normal, which does not hamper your freedom. When you put a stamp that will not be erased even from rubbing with the soap on your hand, you got a pass to heaven, although for most this place will seem like hell, Sodom and Gomorrah, but if you are gathered for a normal life, you have absolutely nothing to do in these walls.

Berghain, in addition to music, is entirely his underground epic audience, giving it atmosphere and emotion. I will not forget the grandfather after 70, who was in a classy suit of the beginning of the XX century danced in the middle of the dance floor, and he gives odds to the young.

All the best friends, positive, there is no gloom and bad mood. By entering the club, you become an ecosystem of what is happening. Perhaps that is why it is at the entrance such strict facecontrol, because any mistake is fraught with failure and coherence of this place, which beats to the heart more precisely than any Swiss watch.

Berghain. Don`t forget to go home.

Adidas Originals has released new acid house-inspired sneakers with UK footware retailer Size? The new shoes are based and inspired by the soul of the 1990s acid house flyers in two kind of designs.

"Its time to be my own boss"

Peggy Gou is teaming up with New Guards Group to dispatch her own one of a kind fashion line called Kirin, one year from now.

Thomas P. Heckmann's album "Body Music" gets remixed, with 4 acidic cuts from techno legends; CUB, CJ Bolland, The Horrorist and Dax J.

It all started on a dance floor in Brooklyn, and returning for its 10th year running, the independently run Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival is slated to continue its commitment of affordably showcasing some of the best genre-bending DJ & Live Acts in the electronic music sphere, with an emphasis placed on celebrating the artists who are perseverant enough to call Brooklyn home.

This should give you a better understanding of proper techno.. EDM is not techno!

We are creating this post for the same reasons why this video series creator(Mike Derer) did this in the first place! He got tired of explaining to people what techno is..

We are used to see smiling and happy people on rave and edm parties , but what we rare see is when people got caught in funny and weird situations. In this post, we tried to bring few of them in one place.
6 Music is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Second Summer of Love, which swept through the UK during the sun-kissed months of 1988, uniting dance fans in clubs and fields alike.
